The latest statistics show that between 1980 and 2000, over 8,000 men and over 1,000 women died from Mesothelioma. If someone in your family has been affected by this grave disease, you may be legally entitled to financial compensation to help cover your losses.

When asbestos is present, it takes specialized asbestos workers to safely remove and dispose of it properly from buildings, facilities, and the environment. Asbestos is one of the most common contaminants that are encountered by hazardous material workers. In the 1970s, asbestos was used in a variety of ways including for fireproof roofing, flooring, and heat insulation. Before the risks of working with asbestos were known, the contaminant was a great solution because of its durability, resistance to fire and corrosion, and its ability to insulate well.

Today, asbestos is rarely used but there are still a number of legacy buildings and facilities that still contain the material. Asbestos material has been discovered in a good amount of facilities across the country including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. When asbestos is identified in one of these buildings, specialized asbestos workers are called in to remove it from the premises.

Asbestos in New Jersey schools has been an issue recently as well. In 2008, asbestos fibers were found at South Main Street Elementary School in Pleasantville, NJ. In August of 2008, New Jersey asbestos workers were called in to clean up the school. Back in May of 2008, Montclair's Renaissance Middle School was also closed due to high levels of asbestos fibers being detected within the facility. Asbestos was also found in the roofing tiles of a Pennsylvania elementary school, Park Elementary School. Pennsylvania asbestos workers were called in to begin removing the contaminant here as well. Asbestos workers in New York have been busy as well with schools across the state including the Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology in the capital city of Albany as being one of the most recent.

While schools are an obvious major concern, other buildings and facilities have been found to be contaminated with asbestos in the tri-state area and across New Jersey. New Jersey asbestos workers have been used to clean up facilities such as the US Army Transportation Corp in Bayonne, NJ, the RCA Factory in Broomfield, NJ, and the famous Oyster Creek Nuclear Station in Forked River, NJ.

This process can be a lengthy one to remove asbestos. Removing asbestos requires the use of various hand and power tools, vacuums, and scrapers, to remove asbestos from surfaces. The vacuums used by asbestos workers have special filters configured to catch asbestos particles and then is properly disposed of after trapping. Today, asbestos abatement workers function in a very structured environment to minimize risk. Asbestos crews and supervisors try to take every precaution to make sure that the project is being handled in a safe fashion. Today, those who work with asbestos must first complete a training program through their employer that meets OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards. This training is usually done in-house. The employer is responsible for covering all safety aspects delineated by OSHA.

The removal and transportation of asbestos is without a doubt safer these days than it was in the past but there is still risk. Asbestos workers in New Jersey and the rest of the country are still very much at risk every time they come in contact with the contaminant. Asbestos workers are required to wear some type of respirator while working with the contaminant. This is done to protect the worker from airborne particles and noxious gases. However, if all precautions are not taken, these workers are very much in danger and have a substantial risk of being exposed to the contaminant.
